I am a health care and business journalist based in Raleigh, North Carolina. As my paper’s only health care reporter, I have tracked the fallout of the pandemic and its damage to the industry — from struggling rural hospitals to emptied cardiac care units — and covered the explosion of telemedicine. I have also reported on business stories like Medicaid transformation as political wrangling delayed the program, costing insurers millions and derailing the state’s push towards value-based care.
In 2019, I won second place for Beat News Reporting from the North Carolina Press Association for a series of articles profiling Medicaid recipients unable to access their health care benefits.
I am passionate about the pursuit of truth in journalism. I tirelessly track down the intimate human stories that shine a light on larger problems within our health care system.
